A Thought on Rest
As heard on KLBT 88.1
“He taketh me to lie down. . .” Psalm 23
Do you have to be made to rest? Or do you have to become ill before you will rest?
I am a Certified Professional Coach and I hold a degree from Lamar University in Speech and a Master’s from the University of Texas. I married Sam after raising three children as a single mother. I was an educator in regular and special education for twenty years, finishing my professional career as a Braille teacher. In 2007 I founded SMORE for Women. SMORE is a nonprofit association whose goal is Single Moms, Overjoyed, Rejuvenated, and Empowered. My stories have been published in several Christian books and magazines. My Website.
Today, I want to share with you an encounter I had with an amazing person. Handsome couple, she and her husband, professional people, seemed to “have it all.” Consistent with what we read about ways to stay grounded in life, this lady was laser-focused on a purpose. Not a whim, not “purpose of the week” or “subject to change.” HER purpose: Mentoring single moms.
That was at least a dozen years ago. Others and I have watched her see the dream become real, bringing numbers of others with her, mostly single moms. She calls herself a “Tough Old Bird.” On the outside, maybe, but at her center, well, that’s a whole other story! If I were a single mom with questions about life’s issues, I would trust that “Tough Old Bird” to mentor me! (Wonder if she ever considered “Wise Old Owl” as a handle. Only problem………”wise” is the only part that would apply.)
