How to Talk to Yourself

Be Kind to Yourself

So often, maybe without even realizing it, we are self critical. Maybe you say something negative about your appearance in front of your daughter. Think about how that affects her self-image. What is that comment telling her? We know that the same-sex parent is the one that most influences the child. What you speak to yourself does make a difference to your child.

It also makes a very real difference in your own self concept. Imagine being in a relationship with a person who talks to you just as you speak to yourself. You may not speak aloud. You may speak softly or in your thoughts. It doesn’t matter, the results are the same. Your thoughts hold a heavy weight over your mental health. It is your mental health that influences your sense of well-being.

In life coaching we address and evaluate six area of the client’s life. They are: career, relationships, finances, health, spiritual and well-being.

Well-being = happiness, vitality, calmness, optimism, involvement, self-awareness, self-acceptance, self-worth, competence, development, purpose, significance, congruence, and connection.

I raised three children as a single mother before I remarried. I have experienced the potholes, pests, and perils of being the single head-of-household. As an educator in regular and special education for twenty years I know a great deal about child development and how to handle kids. I am the founder of SMORE for Women, a nonprofit whose goal is Single Moms, Overjoyed, Rejuvenated, and Empowered. I’m also a Certified Professional Coach and my stories have been published in several Christian books and magazines. My book, Living Learning Loving is available on Amazon.
