How to Be Part of the Solution

How You Can Make the World a Better Place

I think we can agree that there is far too much hate in the world. The 24/7 news coverage makes sure we see it all. After the angry mob recently attacked our capital it is easy to give the anger a face. So what shall we do? Those of us watching – what can we do?

“The Hand That Rocks the Cradle Is the Hand That Rules the World” is a poem by William Ross Wallace that praises motherhood as the preeminent force for change in the world.

Our children will determine what happens next, at least in the next generation which comes faster than you think.

It is time to talk.

  • Talk to your children about why the haters do what they do. Don’t think you are protecting them by not letting them see these things.
  • Talk to your children about ways they can show love, rather than hate. Ask about classmates and their nationalities. Encourage them to learn how we are not all alike and that is okay.
  • Talk to your children about developing an accepting attitude. Lead by example.

And please, please do not make racial slurs or hate speech in their presence. Children learn by your example.
