Valentine’s Day for Single Moms
When I was a single mom, Valentine’s Day seemed designed to make me feel alone and lonely. I hope you do not have that experience. You can avoid it but it may be a challenge.
Here are a few ideas:
Plan ahead – Do not let the Day blindsight you. Have a plan.
Invite a few girl friends to share the evening – each one can bring part of a very nice meal
Buy flowers – Decorate the table and celebrate
Focus on love of family, children and parents. Use it as a day to teach your kids to demonstrate love to others.
Above all else – do not allow it to be a downer day. It’s your choice.
I raised three children as a single mother before I remarried. I have experienced the potholes, pests, and perils of being the single head-of-household. As an educator in regular and special education for twenty years I know a great deal about child development and how to handle kids. I am the founder of SMORE for Women, a nonprofit whose goal is Single Moms, Overjoyed, Rejuvenated, and Empowered. I'm a Certified Professional Coach and my stories have been published in several books and magazines. My book, Living Learning Loving is available on Amazon.
