Do you feel like every step is a struggle? Are you straining to keep up? Do you have to stop often to catch your breath?
As an woman you are climbing an uphill path every day. It is a struggle and a strain. You may not feel that you are making progress. I encourage you to glance over your shoulder. You may be surprised how steep the slope you’ve traveled. You are making it, be it ever so slowly, one step at a time.
Erik Weihenmayer, the only blind person in history to reach the Seven Summits, has some insightful thoughts on adversity in his book with Paul Stoltz, The Adversity Advantage. Here are a few.
“All worthy ascents begin with coming to grips with where you are, so you can move forward and up.”
“The truth is that adversity makes up most days.” Weihenmayer also says, “Adversity happens. It doesn’t play favorites, and it comes in all shapes and sizes.”
Something to Think About
For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin–real life.
But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten
through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid.
Then life would begin.
At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.
