How To Choose Friends

Choose Friends Wisely

Spot as aired on KLBT 88.1

Once in a while I read something that is too true not to share. I wonder why some people keep choosing people and places that are not good for them. Some do so:

  • Because they have low self-worth and tend to be attracted to people they believe are like them
  • Because they are genuinely trying to save them.
  • In other cases because of an inflated feeling of self-importance

Today I read from 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos. I am sharing an excerpt here.

Psychological studies point to the fact that it is easier to pull downward than upward. It might be because appearing to help someone else make you look good or feel better about your own shortcomings. In other cases, not everyone who is down is ready to accept help. In fact, it is best to see the troubled person make an effort to be better before intervening.

So who do you hang around with? You shouldn’t attach yourself to someone who isn’t willing to do better. Bottom line “Cultivate friendships with those who want the best for you.”
