How to Be Happy

Happiness is a God-Job

Man’s Search for Meaning is one of the most impactful book I’ve ever read. It was a long time ago. The one message I remember is the author, Viktor Frankl‘s observation about our reactions to what happens to us. He wrote, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” Frankl lost everything including his wife during World War II. He was imprisoned by the Nazi’s and after they had removed all his clothing they removed his wedding ring. As they pulled it from his finger he realized he had a choice in how he would respond.

From The Quest

No matter what situation you find yourself in, once you make contact with Christ in the core of your being, you feel an immediate rush of joy, because you know that you can trust God and that everything is going to be all right.

Not ‘going to be all right’ in our way of looking at the world. Rather the spiritual level. And isn’t that where Joy is born?
