Surrendering to -not having all the answers, can “be like turning over the basic materials to a master rug-maker, knowing that he can take what we give and weave something far more beautiful than we could ever do.” – Vernon Howard in The Mystic Path to Cosmic Power
I grew up in a church where we sang “I Surrender All” a common hymn.
All to Jesus I surrender
Make me Savior wholly thine
May Thy Holy Spirit fill me
May I know Thy power divine
As a follower of The Christ, I know surrender is the answer to many of my earthly dilemmas. I strive for a balance between action and surrender.
On my desk I keep a plaque, “12 Symptoms of Spiritual Awakening” and the first is: “An increased tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen.” I admit I don’t find it easy to ‘let things happen.’ I’d prefer making something happen. I’ve learned over many life experiences that I don’t have the control I once thought, in my youth, that I had. After living through personal attempts to make things happen I’ve learned that I can simply catch the vision and do my part. Then I must release my hold and let it be.
“Trying to do the Lord’s work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.” -Corrie ten Boom
I raised three children as a single mother before I remarried. I have experienced the potholes, pests, and perils of being the single head-of-household. As an educator in regular and special education for twenty years I know a great deal about child development and how to handle kids. I am the founder of SMORE for Women, a nonprofit whose goal is Single Moms, Overjoyed, Rejuvenated, and Empowered. I’m also a Certified Professional Coach and my stories have been published in several Christian books and magazines. My book, Living Learning Loving is available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble online.
