Easter

bread, cup with cross shadow on table

THE CUP AND THE BREAD

We remember the cup

And we remember the bread

For the blood that flowed

Down Your thorn-pierced head.

Your body bruised and broken

So our souls don’t have to be.

Our freedom really wasn’t free

And is only found at Calvary.

We owed sin’s awful costly debt,

But You paid it instead,

So today we remember

The cup and the bread.

We hold it to our lips

As You hold us to Your chest.

We don’t deserve Your mercy,

But You gave Your very best.

We pause to offer gratitude.

You did what we could never do.

Your sacrifice our sacrament.

Your death our second birth.

Our words can’t fully tell

Of Your unfathomable worth,

So today we remember

The cup and the bread.
