His Presence Will Bring Ultimate Contentment

His Presence

 by Laurie Harris

I walked into the room and said

There you are my sweet sweetie

and adorable you.

I was talking to my little chocolate companion

Malia, my four-year-old schnauzer

That’s right, I talk to my do . . . smile . . . don’t you?

Her presence brings me a sense of contentment.

Her following me from room to room just to be near me

Makes me feel loved and special.

I won’t make her grooming appointments on days that I will be home

Because . . . I miss her presence if she isn’t there

Today, I was anticipating a week of challenging days.

I was anxious about my expectation of difficulties.

I was praying about it.

It was that kind of prayer where I talk to God

While I race about the house, as I’m getting ready for the day.

One of my ways of praying without ceasing (I Thess. 5:17).

Then I walked into the room

And saw my sweet Malia peering at me from the chair.

She brought a smile to my face and a lift in my spirit.

And in saying, “There you are” I was saying I was glad

I was glad that she, her presence, was there to greet me.

It was in that moment, that I felt an even greater presence

And sensed God saying, “and Here I am.”

Here I am…with you not only in each room but everywhere you go.

Here I am…the one that cherishes you and loves you unconditionally.

Here I am…who brings you peace when you’re feeling anxious.

The peace of His Presence washed over me

And I sighed, “Oh yes, Lord…you are here with me.”

“And I am grateful.”

And…I would sorely miss Him if He wasn’t there.

That moment surprised me a bit.

And yet, it shouldn’t have…I mean, I was talking to Him.

You see . . .my prayers didn’t drift off into the wind

As though my words were going out to some story built genie.

No, they landed . . . they landed right in the heart of my God.

He was there, He was listening and He was sustaining me.

Does the thought of sensing God’s presence in your life feel unfamiliar?

Does it feel like something beyond you, not something you could grasp?

Do you long for His presence in your life, to understand it, to be aware of it?

Let me assure you, I’m learning about His presence daily.

I don’t take it lightly when I state, “I sensed His presence.”

And I wouldn’t want it to come across as some overly religious statement.

I’ve even questioned myself and God on how I know what I’m saying is true.

One of the things I do know . . . is that His presence in your life

starts with asking Him to be a part of it.

Relationship building is important,

especially when building it with your Lord

for His presence will bring you the ultimate contentment.

Come near to God and he will come near to you. James 4:8

Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20
