In Philip Yancey’s book, What’s So Amazing About Grace? he begins with a graphic example. After counseling a prostitute about her deplorable actions, he “asked if she had ever thought of going to a church for help.” He writes, “I will never forget the look of pure, naive shock that crossed her face. ‘Church!’ she cried. ‘Why would I ever go there? I was already feeling terrible about myself. They’d just make me feel worse.’ ”
I feel strongly that since we know that 95% of the 12 million single mothers in the United States do not attend church, we should ask ourselves “Why?” And then we should decide what we ought to do about it.
Our vision at SMORE for Women is to equip and assist compassionate women who want to host intimate Days of Blessings or other events that will encourage single moms.
Gail visits with and communicates with women across the country. She’s even heard from moms in the Philippines, Canada, and Africa. We are here to make a difference. We’d love to hear from you.
